Author David Mindich talked about his book Tuned Out: Why Americans Under 40 Don’t Follow the News, published by Oxford University Press. The author described the research he performed, including interviews of young Americans from different parts of the country regarding how they receive their news. He argued that in general, they know, care, and vote less than older generations. He asserted that the root of the problem is entertainment, specifically music videos and sports programs. In order to start a new trend, he urged every channel to carry news as part of its children’s programming. After the discussion, the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
