A panel moderated by former Senator Tom Daschle talked about the Cobell v. Norton case and about how the mismanagement of the Trust by the government had affected hundreds of thousands of Native American Indians. The American Indians sued on the grounds that they have not received money owed to them and that the government mismanaged the trust could be worth as much as $10 to $40 billion. The lead plaintiff and the counsel for the plaintiff class talked about their trial experience. Mr. Hall was co-chair of the Trust Reform and Cobell Settlement Workgroup.

The program began with the screening of a portion of the not-yet completed film Broken Promises: Indian Trust.

The government is trustee for over 10 million acres of land owned by individual Indian trust beneficiaries. In 1887, through the General Allotment Act, the government created this Trust and imposed it on Indian communities without their consent.
