Sherman Alexie talked about his young adult novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, published by Little, Brown Young Readers. It is a semi-autobiographical chronicle of growing up on a Washington State Indian reservation and transfering from the reservation school to the rich, white school. In a frequently humorous presentation he talked about his life and the differences from the book. He also responded to questions from members of the audience.

This program of the Texas Book Festival was held in The Sanctuary on Lavaca Street.

Mr. Alexie was since then awarded the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature for this book. He is the author of many other books, including Indian Killer, Smoke Signals, and Reservation Blues. close
