David Abshire, editor of Triumphs and Tragedies of the Modern Presidency: Seventy-Six Case Studies in Presidential Leadership, addressed a class of graduate students on the topics explored in his book. Fifty scholars and journalists contributed to the book. Its purpose is to pull together in one place information about previous presidential administrations in the hope of providing lessons that will help our country’s current and future presidents. In his talk, Mr. Abshire analyzed the leadership styles and abilities of several post-WWII presidents and enumerated the qualities George W. Bush brings to the presidency. He answered questions from the audience. close
