Former Representative Ray LaHood testified about his nomination to be secretary of transportation. In his remarks he said that transportation infrastructure projects would be a high priority of the Obama administration in order to aid in economic stimulus. He also indicated that road and rail projects must be environmentally “sustainable” to “acknowledge the new reality of climate change.” Other topics included improving fuel economy, air traffic control issues, and the viability of Amtrak. Senator Dick Durbin introduced the nominee.
