Participants spoke about the legal reasoning behind the Bush administration detainee program. Panelists spoke about a number of issues including the use of torture techniques during interrogation, international law governing prisoner treatment and warfare, the obligations and responsibilities of lawyers in providing advice to government officials, and the limits of executive power. The panel took a break to hear remarks from Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, before resuming their discussion.
