Agriculture Secretary Vilsack spoke about the state of the agriculture industry. Among the issues addressed were the impact of the drought on farm states and food prices, disaster aid for farmer and ranchers, and the future of the farm bill. Reports indicated that 2012 was the hottest year recorded in the U.S. The Department of Agriculture says 1,584 counties in 32 states were designated as primary disaster areas.
