Panel members discussed the role of the courts in times of war. Topics included handling emergencies, history of court actions during war, possible abuses, chauvinism, treason, and martial law. After their presentations the panelists responded to audience members' questions.

This was a portion of the program, “The Role of the Courts in Times of War: A Historical Perspective,” which was a program of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judicial Conference, held at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. The Ninth is the largest circuit, covering Alaska, Arizona, Calfornia, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington State, the U.S. territory of Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. close
