Tim O’Brien read from and discussed his novel The Things They Carried, published by Random House. In his book he combined part novel and part personal memoir to relate his experiences during the Vietnam War. During his discussion, Mr. O’Brien explained that while many of the events he chronicles in the book never really happened, the book truthfully reflects his attitudes towards the war and gives an accurate picture of what life was like for him and other soldiers in Vietnam. Following his presentation, he responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
