Nicholson Baker talked about a book he co-wrote, The World on Sunday: Graphic Art in Joseph Pulitzer's Newspaper (1898-1911), published by Bulfinch. The book was co-written with his wife, Margaret Brentano. Joseph Pulitzer's New York World was one of the earliest newspapers to include colorful political cartoons, typography, and comic strips in its Sunday edition. The two authors located a set of the New York World in the British Library and selected eighty-five cartoons, articles, and satirical pieces which they believe demonstrate the paper's innovation. Mr. Baker discussed the cultural relevance of the newspaper. During his presentation, the art was displayed on a projection screen. Following his presentation, Mr. Baker responded to questions and comments from members of the audience.
