Gary Nash talked about slavery and his book The Unknown American Revolution: The Unruly Birth of Democracy and the Struggle to Create America, published by Viking. In his book, the author wrote about his belief that America has lost sight of the most disruptive and radical upheaval in American history. He chronicled the events of the American Revolution he felt were often glossed over by popular history. He described the motivations behind the revolution as being driven not only by the Founding Fathers, but also by all classes and races of American society. Following his remarks, he responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. The XII Annual E.P. Thompson Memorial Lecture, sponsored by the Working-Class History Seminar, was titled, "Could Slavery Have Been Abolished by the Revolutionary Generation?" The event was held inside the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium.
