Panelists, including law professors from Howard University and CUNY and representatives of the NAACP and the Women’s Legal Defense Fund, debated the nomination of black U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Clarence Thomas to replace resigning Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. The NAACP previously announced its opposition to Judge Thomas' nomination on the basis of his poor record in enforcing anti-discrimination regulations, gender equality and reproductive rights during his tenure as head of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
