Dr. Carl Weiss, Jr,. made his first public appearance to speak about the impact of the shooting of Huey Long on the Weiss family. His father allegedly assassinated Huey Long and was killed on the scene. He discussed the case and his reasons for disagreeing with the claims that his father was Long’s assassin.

This was a presentation at the day-long symposium on the legacy of Huey Long held August 28, 2010, by Louisiana Secretary of State Jay Dardenne and the Foundation for Historical Louisiana in the Old State Capitol.

Huey Long was the 40th governor of Louisiana, from 1928 to 1932. He was also a United States senator from Louisiana, from 1932 to 1935. Huey Long was a powerful and controversial figure in Louisiana politics, and was assassinated September 8, 1935. close
