Philip Bobbitt discussed his book The Shield of Achilles: War, Peace, and the Course of History, published by Alfred A. Knopf, on WNYC’s “New York and Company,” a New York City-based radio show. Professor Bobbitt briefly explained the history and role of the nation-state and the relatively recent power transfer from the nation-state to the “market-state.” He also talked about the growing impact of non-state actors (including groups like al-Qaida), the current conflict between India and Pakistan, and the use of poetry in his book. The show was guest hosted by Tom Vitale. close
