New York Times reporter Judith Miller, who was jailed 85 days for refusing to reveal the source that disclosed the identity of undercover Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent Valerie Plame, spoke to participants of the 2005 Society of Professional Journalists Convention and National Journalism Conference at the Aladdin Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. She discussed her detention, the allowance by Scooter Libby to be identified as the source, and the need for a Federal Shield Law.

After being presented with a First Amendment Award, Ms. Miller had a conversation with Bruce Sanford, her attorney of Baker and Hostetler law firm, about her time in prison and her October 19th testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of the Shield Law.

Following their talk, Mr. Hebert and Ms. Hurtado joined Ms. Miller and Mr. Sanford for a panel discussion titled “The Reporter’s Privilege Under Siege.” They talked about other subpoenas of reporters, including the case of Ben Ho Lee close
