He described how he selected the portions of the diaries for this volume, saying that the complete diaries, minus classified material, will be published in approximately two years. Topics included his choice of subject matter such as foreign policy and economics, and Mrs. Reagan’s part in the project. Mr. Brinkley described what the diary reveals about President Reagan’s relationships with Al Haig, George Shultz, Ted Kennedy, Tip O’Neill, and others. He also discussed the importance of Reagan’s personality to his success and his desire to be remembered as a peacemaker. He read excerpts from the book.
