Mr. Teachout talked about the relationship between politics and art. He focused on the purposes of political art, the esthetic value of art designed to persuade, political ideologies presented in the form of artistic expression, and trends toward the critique of art to further political principles or policies. Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience.

Terry Teachout was the drama critic of the Wall Street Journal, the music critic of Commentary, and a contributor to the Washington Post, for which he wrote “Second City,” a column about the arts in New York City. He also covered the arts for the New York Times, National Review, and other publications, as well as on his website. His most recent book was A Terry Teachout Reader, published by Yale University Press.
