Bill Minutaglio talked about his book The President’s Counselor: The Rise to Power of Alberto Gonzales, published by Rayo. He described the public and private lives of U.S. Attorney General Gonzales. Mr. Gonzales grew up in an immigrant family and ultimately became one of President George W. Bush’s closest colleagues and friends. Mr. Minutaglio said Mr. Gonzales has been loyal to President Bush for many years, hushing up President Bush’s drunk driving conviction and backing him on Texas executions. The author said that more recently Mr. Gonzales has written policies that defend and authorize the torture of suspected terrorists. After his presentation the author responded to audience members' questions.
