Chuck Todd talked about how the press views President Obama’s first days in office and responded to questions from members of the audience. He argued that White House Chief of Staff Emanuel and Press Secretary Gibbs need to do a better job explaining certain policies. He also criticized Congress. Topics included the future of the Republican Party, transparency in government, the economy, the future of journalism, political corruption, and the president’s relationship with Secretary Clinton.

This was the opening general session of the 2009 Legislative Conference of the National Association of Counties, held in the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. close
