Marvelyn Brown talked about and read from her book, The Naked Truth: Young, Beautiful, and (HIV) Positive (Amistad; August 19, 2008). She recounted her diagnoses as HIV Positive at the age of 19 and what she felt was the subsequent alienation by her family and community. According to the Center for Disease Control, HIV/AIDS is the leading cause of death for African-American women aged 25-34. Ms. Brown, now 24 years old, works with HIV/AIDS awareness groups to educate people about the disease. Following her presentation she answered questions from the audience. close
