Author James Wilson discussed his book The Marriage Problem: How Our Culture Has Weakened Families, published by HarperCollins Publishers. In his book, Mr. Wilson asserts that many of society’s problems, such as teen pregnancy, drug use, and criminal activity, result from the eroding value of the institution of marriage. The societal shift in favor of unmarried cohabitation has caused the dissolution of core family values. He cited the ideals of the Age of Enlightenment, glorification of individual rights and the practice of American slavery as the sources of the current predicament. A question and answer period followed Mr. Wilson’s remarks. close
