Journalist Mimi Swartz and former Enron vice-president Sherron Watkins discussed the book they co-wrote, Power Failure: The Inside Story of the Collapse of Enron, published by Doubleday. The book is a behind-the-scenes look at the collapse of the gas and energy trading company. After a dramatic rise in the late 1990s, Enron emerged as the seventh largest corporation in America. Largely based on the never-before-published disclosures of whistle blower Sherron Watkins, the narrative traces the company’s money laundering schemes, fictional accounting and manufactured profits. The alleged participants include Chairman Ken Lay, Chief Executive Officer Jeff Skilling and Chief Financial Officer Andy Fastow, who is accused of inflating profits while diverting millions of dollars into his own pocket. Following the presentation, the authors answered questions from members of the audience.
