As a part of the legislative conference’s Author Pavilion, Sheryll Cashin spoke about her book, The Failures of Integration: How Race and Class Are Undermining the American Dream, published by Public Affairs. She discussed the “unfulfilled promise” of Brown v. Board of Education. She noted that while most Americans support the notion of a free and equal society, this fact is not reflected in the daily lives of many Americans. “Most people do not share their life space, their neighborhood, with people who are different from them in terms of race or class,” the author said. She argued that this separation is damaging to America. close
