On the twentieth anniversary of C-SPAN, participants spoke about the years-long struggle to televise proceedings on the floor of the House, the formation and early years of C-SPAN, and the growth of the cable industry. They said that C-SPAN had become a uniquely American institution because it promoted freedom and individuality. They said that because it allows the government and citizens to freely convey information without any government control, it has created a medium which allows individuals to form their own opinions. After their remarks they answered questions from the audience. close
