Eric Arnesen talked about the book he edited, The Black Worker: Race, Labor, and Civil Rights Since Emancipation, published by University of Illinois Press. The book contains essays dealing with racial aspects of the American economy and labor movement, the worker level of the black class structure, and early civil rights struggles. He said that black workers were confronted not only with a segregated work life, but a black middle class that did not understand their struggles. He was interviewed at the University of Illinois by the C-SPAN BookTV Bus crew.
