Democrat Pat Schroeder of Colorado talked about the obstacles that women and other minorities faced in the 1970s, and described her work as a representative at the height of the women’s movement. She served in the U.S. Congress for 24 years. When she was first elected in 1972, she was a 32-year-old mother of two young children. When she arrived in Washington, she was one of only fourteen women in the House. close
