Last summer Justice William Brennan resigned from the Supreme Court for health reasons. Mr. Sofaer, counsel for the Department of State, and Mr. Lyons discussed the former Justice’s judicial career. Ms. Witt compared Justice Brennan to former Justice Joseph Story, who also served on the Court for thirty-four years, (1812-1845). The Gideon v. Wainwright case was discussed, along with other major cases that Justice Brennan influenced.
