Historians reflected on the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, as it approached its tenth anniversary. The panelists placed the events in historical context and asked how a climate of fear has shaped U.S. politics and policies in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Topic included if U.S. reactions to the perceived threat of terrorism differed fundamentally from reactions in earlier eras to perceived threats to the nation. Ms. Kerber chaired. C-SPAN was not allowed to record the presentation of Lisa McGirr, Harvard University history professor.
