The Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005 required full-power television stations to cease analog broadcasts and switch to digital after February 17, 2009. The Act also authorized National Telecommunications and Information Administration to create the Digital-to-Analog Converter Box Coupon Program. The expo focused on the logistical decisions that telecommunication companies had to make to be compliant with the Act. After opening remarks Assistant of the Department of Commerce Secretary Kneuer moderated an Industry Progress Report, which was followed by questions and comments from the public. Then Assistant Secretary Kneuer moderated a Stakeholder Progress Report.
