Taylor Branch talked about his book The Clinton Tapes: Wrestling History with the President(Simon & Schuster; September 29, 2009). In his book Taylor Branch recalls his eight years of private meetings with President Bill Clinton between 1993 and 2001. Mr. Branch and the then president would meet monthly and discuss current events with the intent of creating an oral history that would present an insider’s view of the American presidency. The guest interviewer was John Harris, editor in chief of Politico.
Taylor Branch is the author of a multi-volume history of the civil rights movement, the first volume Parting the Waters: America in the King Years, 1954-63 was the recipient of the Pulitzer Prize. Mr. Branch was formerly a staff member of Harper’s, Esquire, and The Washington Monthly.
John Harris is the editor in chief of Politico. He was formerly a political reporter for the Washington Post where he covered the Clinton White House from 1995 to 2001. He is the author of The Survivor: Bill Clinton in the White House and co-author of The Way to Win: Taking the White House in 2008.
