Steve DelBianco, Jerome Horton, and Joe Crosby talked about taxing goods sold over the Internet. California recently had begun requiring Internet merchants to collect sales tax, and other states were looking at similar actions. The National Governors Association and the Retail Industry Leaders Association support a uniform national internet sales tax, and several members of Congress have proposed variations on the legislation. A national law would override a 1992 Supreme Court decision blocking states from collecting taxes on retailers that do not have a physical presence in their states. Jerome Horton participated by telephone. Cara Griffith was a guest interviewer.
