Panelists discussed efforts to craft a tax reform package that would reduce rates and the deficit without eliminating tax breaks that benefit large portions of the middle class. Mark Zandi said going back to Clinton-era tax rates on the rich would do less economic damage than other revenue raising options. 
“Fixing the Debt: Reforming the Tax Code and Federal Health Spending” was a forum held at Grand Hyatt Washington by the Campaign to Fix the Debt, which was co-founded by Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles, the former co-chairs of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.
