Witnesses testified about proposed legislation that would enhance public disclosure relating to political activities of tax-exempt organizations, including organizations described in Internal Revenue Code sections 501(c)(4), (5), and (6) and section 527. Among the issues raised were the degree to which issue advocacy masks endorsements of candidates, ways to design disclosure regulations, and legal issues concerning free speech. close
