Commissioner Everson talked with reporters about a three-year study that assessed individual compliance with tax laws. He emphasized that the majority of Americans pay their taxes honestly and accurately. He said the report showed that the Internal Revenue Service is not receiving over a quarter-trillion dollars that it is owed each year. He also talked about the tax gap, comprised of underreporting and non-filing. The study did not include corporate compliance. After his presentation he answered reporters' questions. close
