Beverly Daniel Tatum talked about her book, Can We Talk About Race? And Other Conversations in an Era of School Resegregation, published by Beacon Press. She argued that negative stereotyping of black students compromises their ability to live up to their academic potential. She also argued against what she sees as a trend toward de facto resegregation of the nation’s schools, brought about by segregated neighborhoods. She talked about her family, her life, and her experiences. She focused on ways of talking about race and racial tension. The guest interviewer was Roger Wilkins.

Prior to becoming president of Spelman College, Dr. Tatum was affiliated with Mount Holyoke College for thirteen years as a psychology professor, department chair, dean of the college, and acting president.
