Committee members debated whether IRS employee Lois Lerner waived her 5th Amendment rights during a May 22 hearing on the tax-exempt program by giving an opening statement before invoking the 5th amendment. The committee approved a resolution along a party line vote of 22 to 17 stating that she had waived her rights and could be compelled to testify before the committee. close
