Aboard the USS George Washington, President Bill Clinton participated in a sunrise ceremony commemorating those lost at sea in the Normandy invasion. “This new and historically accurate dawn reminds us of that dawn 50 years ago that brought a new era, when thousands of warships assembled to begin Europe’s liberation,” stated the President. Following the President’s comments, he tossed a wreath from the stern of the George Washington in honor of those Navy personnel who gave their lives during D-Day and throughout the war. close
