Participants discussed whether doctor-assisted suicide should be made legal. They examined issues such as a person’s right to die and be relieved of suffering, the proper role of physicians in relieving suffering and the psychological state of victims of severe illnesses. After individual presentations, the panelists took questions from the audience. This forum occurred the same day the Supreme Court heard oral arguments that concerned the constitutionality of Washington and New York laws which prohibited doctor-assisted suicide. close
