Ms. Hoffman talked about her book After Such Knowledge: Where Memory of the Holocaust Ends and History Begins, published by PublicAffairs. She discussed the experience of growing up as the child of Holocaust survivors. She argued that the children of Holocaust survivors are themselves “second-generation survivors.” She spoke about the ways that survivors passed on the memories of their ordeal to their children. She spoke about the struggle to develop an appropriate relation with the past through history and memory. Following her remarks, Ms. Hoffman responded to questions from members of the audience. close
