As part of the society’s annual conference, panelists who have written for the biography series discussed diplomatic biographies in the Biographies in American Foreign Policy series, published by Scholarly Resources. Goals of the diplomatic series include covering the person’s character development, historical role, and influence on foreign policy. Professor Forslund discussed informal diplomat Anna Chennault, the Chinese widow of General Claire Chennault, who was the leader of the World War II Flying Tigers. Professor Schmitz wrote about Henry L. Stimson, former secretary of war under Presidents Taft, F. Roosevelt and Truman and secretary of state under President Hoover. Professor Lewis talked about former President John Quincy Adams, and Professor Immerman talked about his love of writing biographies and his subject, John Foster Dulles, secretary of state under President Eisenhower.
