The State Republican party held a rally and straw poll for the Republican presidential hopefuls. Five candidates spoke at the rally including two who officially announced their candidacy. Former Governor Lamar Alexander(R-TN), Senator Phil Graham (R-TX), Syndicated columnist Pat Buchanan, Representative Robert Dornan(R-CA) and political activist from Maryland Alan Keyes, who ran for Senate twice and worked in the Reagan administration. Senator Phil Gramm won the straw poll count. close
