Brandt Goldstein talked about his book Storming the Court: How a Band of Yale Law Students Sued the President--and Won, published by Scribner. The book told the story of a team of Yale law students and other human rights activists led by Professor Harold Koh who in 1992 sought to enjoin the government from detaining over 6000 Haitian refugees indefinitely at Guantánamo Bay, without charges or access to counsel.

Mr. Goldstein, Ms. Daugaard and Professor Wishnie were among the students who joined Dean Koh in the 1992 case, which was heard by Judge Johnson. Following Mr. Goldstein’s remarks, the panelists discussed the background and effect of the decision. During the discussion, video footage was shown of President Clinton and others speaking about the situation in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After their remarks, the panelists responded to questions and comments from members of the audience.
