Jennifer Brunner and Beth Chapman talked about efforts nationwide and in their own states to improve the standards of accuracy, convenience, efficiency, and security in American voting procedures and the election process, and they responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. Topics included how states have prepared for and are preparing for the influx of new voters in the 2008 primary and general elections, questions about voting, ballots and machines, and concerns about how states will ensure that the ballots of military and overseas voters will be counted. Ms. Brunner and Ms. Chapman are in Washington today to participate in a forum entitled “Democracy at a Distance: A Summit to Make Voting Work for Military and Overseas Voters” sponsored by the Pew Center on the States and its partners. close
