The Spy Who Tried to Stop a War: Katharine Gun and the Secret Plot to Sanction the Iraq Invasion is the story of a British intelligence employee Katharine Gun, who leaked documents to the British press prior to the invasion of Iraq. The documents showed that the United States was spying on members of the UN Security Council. Ms. Gun was charged with violating Britain’s Official Secrets Act. Marcia Mitchell, the author of the book, provided background on the story. Katharine Gun then provided commentary followed by journalist Norman Solomon, Daniel Ellsberg

(the former Defense Department analyst who leaked the Pentagon Papers), Peter Earnest, and Ray McGovern.

Marcia Mitchell is former associate director of the American Film Institute and a former senior executive for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. She is the co-author, with her husband Thomas, of The Spy Who Seduced America: Lies and Betrayal in the Heat of the Cold War. close
