Panelists spoke about the 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik in a forum titled “The Sputnik Moment: Lessons for 21st Century Global Challenges.” They spoke about the Sputnik launch and the impact it made on U.S. space and science policy, the resulting investment in science, technology and education, and ways in which the event shaped the Cold War. They also talked about U.S. foreign policy and business practices following the launch and subsequent “space race.”
