Karen Armstrong talked about her memoir, "The Spiral Staircase: My Climb out of Darkness", published by Knopf. Ms. Armstrong became a nun when she was 17, but left the convent in 1969 at the age of 24. In the book, the author examines her personal search for God and for her place in the world in the years after her departure from the convent. Following prepared remarks, Ms. Armstrong responded to questions from the audience.

Ms. Armstrong has also written several other books on religious subjects, including A History of God, The Battle for God: A History of Fundamentalism, Islam: A Short History, and Buddha. close
