The Senate Judiciary Committee held its third day of hearings on the appointment of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court seat vacated by the retirement of Justice David Souter. Committee members continued their initial round of questioning with each member allotted 30 minutes to question the nominee.
Part 3 of 5 continued with questioning from Senators Specter and Franken. Senator Specter focused on limits of executive power, how the court decides cases to hear, warrantless wiretapping, and the inclusion of cameras in the courtroom. Senator Franken focused on media consolidation and regulation, judicial activism, the court’s role in interpreting the Constitution, and several Supreme Court cases which had resulted in sweeping changes in law.
