Specialists from the World Organization for Resource Development and Education (WORDE) talked about U.S. civil society engagement in Afghanistan. They argued that effective engagement was the missing piece toward securing Afghanistan’s future. Former Afghanistan commander General John Allen also participated in the beginning of the discussion, saying that he was “cautiously optimistic” about the future of Afghanistan following the U.S. troop withdrawal scheduled for the end of 2014.

The WORDE report, Afghanistan 2014 and Beyond: The Role of Civil Society in Peacebuilding and in Countering Violent Extremism, was launched at this event at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. The presenters used visuals and responded to questions. close
