Ben Skinner talked about his book A Crime So Monstrous: Face-to-Face with Modern-Day Slavery, published by Free Press. In his book Mr. Skinner reported on the modern-day slave trade that included 27 million people, more than at any other time in history. Mr. Skinner defined slaves as those forced to work, under threat of violence, for no pay beyond subsistence. He profiled the slave traffickers, those currently enslaved, and former slaves from five continents.

The book included an account of the work of John Miller, former U.S. ambassador-at-large for human trafficking issues, who also spoke at the event. Mr. Skinner responded to questions from members of the audience. close
