Former Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah talked about the security situation in Afghanistan. He briefly outlined recent Afghan history and talked about how Afghan citizens feel about the changes in Afghanistan since the U.S. invasion. He discussed how the choice of a presidential system, where power is concentrated in the center, meant that provincial councils outside of Kabul are not given enough of a role to play in the government, and how this reduces confidence in the government. He said that in the future it was crucial to take into account the grievances of the people in this and other regards. Following his prepared remarks he answered questions from members of the audience. close
